Preschool - What We Do

Curriculum

A complete curriculum is planned each month to provide each child the opportunity to develop spiritually, socially, physically, emotionally, and intellectually.

Spiritually: Children are reminded daily, through prayer, stories, videos, and songs that Jesus loves them, takes care of them, and is always with them. We attend chapel each week to reinforce our Bible story and memory verse and learn new songs.

Socially: Children will be encouraged and given time to develop friendships as they work and play together with children their own age.

Physically: Each child will have the opportunity to develop balance and coordination through outdoor activities and the use of a wide variety of playground equipment. Small muscles will be strengthened through art experiences, puzzles, and small manipulative toys.

Emotionally: A high-self esteem is essential to a person’s well being. St. John’s will help each child develop confidence through positive reinforcement and activities geared for challenge and success.

Intellectually: Children will be introduced to colors, numbers, letters, phonics, science concepts, printing, etc., through varied developmentally appropriate activities. Music is used to introduce new concepts and reinforce those that are known. Our Pre-K classes implement Houghton Mifflin PRE-K. This program is a hands-on, minds-on curriculum that is based on scientific research. Aligned with key Pre-K learning goals, it provides children with the foundational skills they need to succeed as lifelong learners.

Creatively: Each child’s creative thinking process will be encouraged through daily activities which will explore expression through art, language, and physical movement.
